Educational distribution intern at the Center for Asian American Media, SF (summer 09)

POSITION: Educational Distribution Intern
PERIOD: Summer 2009 (June-August 2009)
COMMITMENT: Minimum 5-10 hours per week; flexible hours
COMPENSATION: Unpaid. University credit may be arranged. Opportunities to attend CAAM
summer events, access to our extensive film collection, and complimentary CAAM membership.

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:

CAAM Educational Distribution seeks a skilled, dedicated and enthusiastic individual to
assist with the department. The internship consists of basic business office duties, customer
service/filmmaker relations and other projects as needed. This position is best suited for
someone who is willing to share, learn and gain skills in the area of non-profit business
management/administration, distribution and marketing.

EDUCATIONAL DISTRIBUTION:

The Educational Distribution service of CAAM has distributed high quality works by and
about Asians and Asian Pacific Americans since 1986. With a catalog of more than 250 titles, it
constitutes the country’s largest collection of Asian American films and videos for use in schools,
institutions, libraries, community groups and others. Our award-winning documentaries, personal
stories, dramas, experimental works and curriculum reflect the rich history and diversity of Asian
people in the U.S. and worldwide.

DUTIES:

• General administrative tasks including filing and data entry
• Inventory control
• DVD duplication and packaging
• Database maintenance
• Website maintenance and updates
• Evaluation and management of film submissions

exciting Asian American non-profit media arts organization and community. Interns will get
hands-on experience with the business, programmatic and marketing aspects of a nationally
recognized non-profit media arts organization.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Mac OS proficiency
• Previous experience with MS Word and Excel
• Experience with Filemaker Pro, Photoshop, InDesign, Web Publishing and Quickbooks a
plus
• Marketing and/or educational background a plus
• Detail-oriented and a team player
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
• Ability to work well independently in a personal and small office environment
• Desire to learn about non-profit media arts organizing
• Knowledge/Interest in Asian American independent media
