Hey all, in the event that you come across this posting, I'm wondering... what are you up to nowadays? Suddenly, we've all (or at least those of us who have graduated) disappeared into the ether. I kind of miss you all.
As for me, it was barely a few weeks after graduating in May that I was back at work. I took up an internship with the
Neighborhood Empowerment Network (sign up to our awesome Facebook page
here), a project which works to get communities active in making their neighborhoods better places.

The NEN differentiates itself from the typical government model thus: Government does things for people ("pay us taxes and we will clean your streets for you"), which tend to lead to disassociation from civic responsibility on the part of citizens; the NEN provides tools and inspiration for communities to become stronger to do these things for themselves ("here's some advice and tools for you to improve the neighborhood yourself"). I like this approach a lot.
My official title is Media Director of the Neighborhood Empowerment Network. My job is to build a coalition of media producers to produce short web "NENtv" videos (maybe other media down the line) that cover what's going on in the community-building arena.

This might include a profile of an individual, organization, neighborhood, or initiative; coverage of an event; a themed short; a how-to video; and so on. I hope NENtv will be watched by many people and will inspire other people and communities to start becoming active.
That's it from me. How about you...?
I hope you're doing well, wherever you are!
