BECA Digital Lounge

Where BECA graduate students & alumni make media

The Graduate Research & Creative Works Showcase is an annual event. SFSU graduate students come together to share their work with other students and faculty, network, and of course enjoy the free food after the event. Registered students also get a chance to win a laptop computer, digital camera or gift certificates in the raffle after the event!

This short video is from the 2009 event. We BECA graduate students had three displays: the Focal Point TV show (Adam, Travis, Tommy), Accessibility in New & Mobile Media (Melinda), and male body image in the media (Tommy and Melinda).

Although I didn't gain too much in the way of networking (though there must surely have been a lot of this going on), I really got a sense of what SFSU graduate students are up to. Being so cloistered in our Creative Arts world, this was a rewarding experience.

Unfortunately, apart from me, Tommy, Travis, and Mindy, no other BECA graduate students had a display or even showed up to look around. I think this is a shame since the event is a great experience and we should be representing our department there. So many graduate students are pioneering in particular fields - I wonder if our media skills might one day be applied to promoting this great work. Food for thought.

So, enjoy the video and do consider attending next year.
