Where BECA Graduate students & alumni do their thing

How slammed are you right now?

It's that time of the semester, and the year, when we're all slammed with work. Let's exchange our stories of woe to ease the pain.

So... how slammed are you right now?

Well, I'll go first, seeing as I started this....

Here's what's on my plate. I've got...
+ My 10 hour a week BECA Graduate office job, which is pretty low-maintenance right now, thankfully.
+ A truckload of marking for my Dina TA job coming up.
+ Helping the editing process of a Dolores Park documentary for my 562 Documentary class.
+ Writing the proposal for my Creative Project - this is big.
+ Everything else related to the actual production of my Creative Project, a 700 mile bicycle ride across Montana, beginning next month. This includes securing film and touring equipment, getting clearance for human subjects, and planning the shoot.
+ Writing a lot more script for my 870 Scriptwriting class.
+ Getting some pieces together for Becafest.
+ Various mandatory social gatherings, including BECA bash, Becafest, and the Golden Wheels Awards.

And more bits and pieces. Phew! It's gonna be a tough month...

Jesus! Over my head. Just about every day, someone mentions that they don't know how I get it all done--mother, school, work!? I have no doubt that when I complete my program, awaiting my diploma, I will
wonder who that girl was--the one who did it with two young boys?? In the meantime, I try not to think of the nuts and bolts of it too much, and I am grateful that we have so many amazing people in the program!
4! more weeks....

You know, in comparison, not too slammed.

I've got a 12pager for 702
Another 15-20 pager for 701
A 12-15 pager for 706
and finally the final 870 script... which is finished, but in dire need of editing.

Ugh... no one add that up for me please. I don't want to think about it...

Not to mention working for the man like a sucker.

Yikes. . . well, I've gotta write a script for a sports PKG tonight, shoot my stand-up for it tomorrow (I have to drive down to the South Bay so I can use my cousin's dog as a prop), spend Friday editing in CA 18. Next Friday I'll be shooting my final PKG, which will be about circus school. Grade/evaluate/give feedback on my peer's lecture notes for 752. Write exam questions based on my lecture on sports reporting ethics. Present an itinerary I designed for a tour of Spain for my Rec & Leisure studies class on travel tourism. Also answer questions for a take-home midterm and write a research paper on a travel company for REC 260. Research myth and psychoanalysis so I can write more pages for 701. Then there's the usual reading load. And my internship when the A's are at home. Guess that's it.

I am intimidated just by reading your schedules! I always ask myself at points in the semester like this how I could possibly get all this work done in time. The best thing is: you know you always will. You KNOW.

I've already checked the stand-up off the list-- my cousin's dog is adorable. One step closer to being done; I can do it!

Take a deep breath and know that whatever happens right now, doesn't compare to what will be happening in a few years when the professional or academic worlds make you their own.
School is overrated on the slammed part. Mental exertion is only half of it.

I'm sure you're right, David. Maybe they're different kind of slammed's?

Well, I thought I was almost clear of heavy burdens this semester. Then Dina drops a bombshell on me: I have shed-loads of papers to grade! Now the agony starts all over again! Somebody, give me some rest!

(Note: Please don't give me rest. I don't know what to do with quiet time, it's been so long.)

As of today, I'm done with all my work! Ha!

Hooray! It's getting closer. Mind you, I've got a mean pile of grading papers to do for Dina and I still have no idea when I'm going to be able to do them. Gnnn.... San Francisco, release me!
