Update #6: Home is where my rear is. Right now.

After 2 1/2 nightmare day on the Greyhound. I'm back in San Francisco. I'm also just this second back from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (or "Indiana Jones and the Superfluous Sequel"). What a relief to be back. I missed you, SF.

So, phase one of the Generation Energ… Continue

Update #5: 725 miles, done and dusted. But it's not over...

725 miles on a bicycle: The journey is now complete. No more aching heart as I race ahead of a speeding group to set up camera, no more scrambling for tapes, no more looking for a power socket, no more smelling so bad. But, of course, there is far more good to miss than b… Continue

Montana update #4: End in sight

Well, the adventure continues. We've now clocked up over 500 miles out of the total of 640 miles. All whilst pulling film gear along!

Two days ago, we rode 70 miles across stunning Montanan scenery with blue snow-tipped mountains, rolling green hills, and valleys stretching as far as the… Continue

Montana update #3: Shooting on a bicycle!

Greetings! Montana finds me well and I hope this finds you well. Our Montana documentary project continues. We've been doing some long days on the touring bicycles. This has given me my first chance to shoot the cyclists - one hand steering my own bicycle and one hand aiming the camera. It felt quite dangerous at first but I've improved massively. The biggest challenge is avoiding the shakes. For some reason, yesterday I shook too much on the forward shots but kept the camera stable when aiming… Continue

Update #2: Roundup! The Montana doc shoot continues

Hey all, Day 6 or so into my Montana documentary shoot and all is well. Our presence with the students is ever more fluid, natural, and relaxed. It's great. When we want to chat and have fun, we can, then when I want to do an interview, they switch straight into the correct mode and give me great soundbytes. They're naturals. FYI, check out the students' fantastic daily blogs at http://blog.umt.edu/cycletherockies/. You'll be impressed. We're now into the bicycle touring proper. It's a wonder… Continue

What we do in the BECA program really is out there for my grandma. She really doesn't know what a "Masters" is, but she is proud that I am still in school and not married w/10 kids... although she asked me if I was too old to be attending school. Then I informed her that there were people in their 40s, 50s, and 60s that were still in school and she was dumbfounded. (Average education of a Mexican Person in rural/agricultural areas: 7th/8th grade-- but this is if one is willing to pay for that level of education.)

Hello Adam

I am just working away my summer.

I am on campus Monday and Tuesday mornings at technical services.

Looking forward to hearing about your trip.

I will look for you in your office.

I am sure I will see you soon.

Pleasant surprise, running into you at the BECA office; thought I would be the only grad student on campus. I'm taking it easy this summer, just doing my internship with the A's and going back home when the team is on the road. What are you going to do now that you're back from MT?

ha! bored adam at my starbucks?! bring it on...

as for my summer, i've made multiple trips back home to San Diego and to visit a friend in SLO. In 2 weeks I will be making my way to El Trapiche de Zimatlan, La Ciudad de Oaxaca, Oaxaca, MX.
(quite the mouthful, no?) I'm very excited because my grandmother has heard of my studies and has requested that I film and put together a small video for them(they JUST got a VHS player.) It's a very poor and agricultural area, so I'm really excited to get some footage of where my grandmother lives.

We'll see how this goes.

Hey Adam, I wish I could deliver some better news, but so far the job hunt has not been so great. I'm trying to get some face time with the comedy producer at revision3. If you have any ideas lemme know, and keep in touch,
J

hey! of course a new picture is in affect! We're finally free from the dreariness of the finals season.

As for Starbucks, I got a promotion, so I will be working far more than I already have been! yeesh! I dunno if I'm prepared to do so, but why not?! I work in at a Starbucks in South San Francisco-- Grand & Linden. If you're ever in the area and if I'm working, your cup of joe is on me! haha "if if if"

Life is good. I didn't make it to BECAfest unfortunately. You'll have to post it because I'd like to see the projects. I'm just working with the Oakland A's for a pre-game radio show for the summer, waiting for the fall. Are you sticking around S.F.?
